The Truths We Cherish

This is not our statement of doctrinal faith, you can find that below. These are the principles that form our philosophy of ministry:

Reliance on God

The Christian life will only find meaning and fulfilment through recognition of spiritual poverty. That takes shape in our daily walk through submitting our wills to the grace of God and training our thoughts and habits for the consistent reliance on God for everything.

Obedience to God

Intelligent obedience to God, by being an attentive disciple of Jesus Christ, is the only path to a fulfilling and meaningful life –one that counts as fruitful in the Kingdom of God.

Engagement with Scripture

Engagement with the Bible, understood properly, with a heart opened to the work of the Blessed Holy Spirit, is the primary source of substance and growth in the life of the individual. Therefore, we believe that if you teach people to read the Bible with a sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, you need not worry about their spiritual growth and thus the growth of the Kingdom of God.

Spiritual Disciplines

The various spiritual disciples, commanded and inspired by biblical teaching, are necessary practices within the Christian life that create a space for healthy growth of the individual in the Kingdom of God.

Moral Character of the Christian

The moral character of the Christian is the locus of the Glory of God and the primary active component (human component) in Christian mission. Thus, we understand discipleship to be a journey of transformation of character for fruitful kingdom action for the ultimate glory of God.

Outcome of a True Christian

The outcome of every faithful walk is evangelism and discipleship. A maturing Christian must confidently engage in presenting and defending the gospel to their community and peers. They also must help fellow brothers and sisters in their growth and flourishing in the kingdom of God.

Doctrinal Statement

(1) BIBLE

We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God.

(2) TRINITY

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

(3) JESUS

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory.

(4) SALVATION

We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

(5) HOLY SPIRIT

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life.

(6) FINAL RESURRECTION

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

(7) THE CHURCH

We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.

Positional Statements

Statement on The Inerrancy of the Bible

At Remission Ministries, we firmly believe in the inerrancy of the Bible, affirming it as the divinely inspired and authoritative Word of God. We hold that the Scriptures, in their original manuscripts, are without error or contradiction and are wholly trustworthy in all they affirm. This conviction is foundational to our faith and ministry, guiding our teachings, practices, and lives.

The Bible, comprised of the Old and New Testaments, is God's revelation to humanity, accurately conveying His character, will, and redemptive plan. We believe that through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the authors of Scripture were divinely directed to write exactly what God intended, preserving the integrity and truth of His message across all ages.

As a ministry, we commit to upholding the authority of the Bible in every aspect of our work. We teach and preach from Scripture, ensuring that our programs, outreach efforts, and discipleship initiatives are rooted in its truths. We encourage all believers to study the Bible diligently, relying on the Holy Spirit for understanding and application.

In acknowledging the inerrancy of the Bible, we stand in alignment with the historic Christian faith, which has recognized the Scriptures as the ultimate standard for faith and practice. We reject any notion that undermines the reliability and sufficiency of God's Word and affirm its power to transform lives, guide the Church, and reveal the path to salvation through Jesus Christ.

By affirming the inerrancy of the Bible, Remission Ministries remains steadfast in its mission to proclaim the Gospel, disciple believers, and advance the Kingdom of God with confidence in the unchanging truth of God's Word.

Statement on Utility of Apologetics

We recognize the vital role of apologetics in fulfilling our mission (and the mission of the church at large) to proclaim the Gospel, defend the faith, and equip believers to engage thoughtfully with the world around them. Apologetics, the reasoned defense of the Christian faith, is essential for both evangelism and discipleship.

1. Strengthening Believers' Faith:

Apologetics helps believers deepen their understanding of Christian doctrines and the rational foundation of their faith. By addressing doubts and questions, apologetics fortifies believers' confidence in the truth of Scripture and the person of Jesus Christ, empowering them to stand firm in their convictions.

2. Equipping for Evangelism:

In a world increasingly skeptical of religious claims, apologetics equips Christians to effectively share the Gospel. By providing rational arguments and evidence for the existence of God, the reliability of the Bible, and the resurrection of Jesus, apologetics helps bridge the gap between faith and reason, making the message of Christianity accessible and compelling.

3. Engaging Culture:

Apologetics enables believers to engage thoughtfully and respectfully with contemporary cultural issues and worldviews. It encourages dialogue and understanding, fostering meaningful conversations that can lead to spiritual transformation. By addressing the intellectual and moral challenges posed by secularism, relativism, and other ideologies, apologetics demonstrates the relevance and coherence of the Christian worldview.

4. Defending the Faith:

In an age of misinformation and hostility towards religious belief, apologetics serves as a defense against attacks on the Christian faith. It provides well-reasoned responses to objections, critiques, and misconceptions, affirming the credibility and truth of Christianity. This defense is not merely intellectual but is rooted in love, seeking to guide skeptics and seekers towards a relationship with Jesus Christ.

5. Encouraging Intellectual Growth:

Apologetics fosters a love for wisdom and knowledge, encouraging believers to think critically and pursue truth. It aligns with the biblical mandate to love God with all our mind (Matthew 22:37) and to always be prepared to give an answer for the hope that we have (1 Peter 3:15).

Remission Ministries is committed to integrating apologetics into our teaching, outreach, and discipleship efforts. We aim to create a community where questions are welcomed, doubts are addressed, and the truth of the Gospel is proclaimed with clarity and conviction. By embracing the utility of apologetics, we strive to fulfill our calling to make disciples of all nations, grounded in the unshakable truth of God's Word.

Statement on Marriage

Remission Ministries upholds a biblical view of human sexuality. Remission Ministries holds that while the Bible's teachings on homosexuality and marriage are clear, its approach to discussing these matters is grounded in love and respect for all individuals. The ministry believes in the traditional biblical definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman. At the same time, it emphasizes the importance of engaging in this conversation with compassion, understanding, and a non-judgmental attitude, recognizing the dignity and worth of every person.

Remission Ministries upholds that marriage, as designed by God, is a joyful lifelong and exclusive union between one man and one woman. This union reflects the sacred relationship between Christ and His Church, like a shadow reflects the greater reality of the object it represents; within this framework of committed lifelong marriage, sexual relations are to be experienced and celebrated. The ministry rejoices in and worships God for this divine design, viewing human sexuality and marriage as a testament to God's enduring love and grace.

Statement on Creation and the Theory of Evolution

Remission Ministries recognizes the possible compatibility of Christian faith with evolutionary theory, if and only if it is viewed as a biological process under God's creative directive. Acknowledging a spectrum of views within the Christian community, the ministry has a diverse team holding various, even opposing, positions on this issue. This diversity reflects a commitment to exploring and understanding God's creation without undermining core Christian beliefs. The ministry upholds a balanced approach, differentiating between scientific exploration and moral guidance derived from the Bible.

Remission Ministries acknowledges that it is possible for Christians to believe in evolution, understanding it as a biological theory that describes how God created all living things. This view is in line with the historical stance of many Christian thinkers who have reconciled the theory of evolution with a belief in God as the Creator. Prominent Christian scientists and theologians have historically accepted evolutionary theory as compatible with Christian doctrine, viewing it as a means by which God has achieved His creative purposes.

The ministry recognizes that evolution, understood as a process involving genetic variation and reproductive success, is a regulated mechanism far removed from mere chance. This view aligns with the belief that God's creative actions are evident in the natural world, including through evolutionary processes. However, the ministry emphasizes that evolutionary processes do not serve as a source of moral guidance and should not replace the Bible's teachings.

Furthermore, Remission Ministries stands against ideologies that misuse evolutionary theory to support secular philosophies or to claim that science has debunked God and the Christian Faith. The ministry advocates for a balanced understanding where science, including evolutionary theory, is seen as a tool to explore and describe God's creation without contradicting the foundational truths of Christian faith.

Statement on the Politicization of the Pulpit

Remission Ministries advocates for a clear separation between the pulpit and political discourse, emphasizing that the church's primary mission is to preach the gospel unimpeded by political affiliations. However, the ministry strongly encourages Christians to engage in the political sphere, guided by a Christian worldview. This engagement is seen as a vital expression of their faith and commitment to gospel principles. The church's role is to provide spiritual guidance, helping believers apply their faith to all aspects of life, including political involvement, thereby ensuring their civic actions reflect their religious beliefs. The church, and therefore its pulpit, must refrain, to the best of their ability, from endorsing a political view, or a political person.

Statement on Theological Charity

In our quest for a deeper understanding and practice of our faith, we at Remission Ministries are committed to an ancient principle: "In Essentials Unity, In Non-Essentials Liberty, In All Things Charity." This principle is not just a policy for us; it's a living, breathing ethos that shapes every aspect of our ministry, communal life and personal faith journeys.

Unity in What Matters Most

In the essentials of our faith - those core beliefs that are the cornerstone of our Christian doctrine - we seek unity. This unity isn't about uniform agreement on every detail. Instead, it's a heartfelt consensus on the fundamental truths that bind us together in our relationship with God and each other. These essentials, like the triunity of the God we worship, the divinity of our Lord Christ and the Grace of our salvation, are our common ground, our shared language in exploring our faith.

Liberty in Non-essentials

Where beliefs and practices are non-essential to our salvation and core doctrine, we embrace liberty. This liberty isn't a free-for-all; it's a thoughtful, respectful space where we can explore, question, and grow. We recognize that diversity in thought and practice is not just inevitable but valuable. It's in these varied perspectives that we find richness and depth, much like a mosaic made more beautiful by each unique piece.

Charity in Every Interaction

Above all, we commit to charity in all things. This charity is our guiding light, ensuring that every conversation, every disagreement, and every decision is tempered with love and grace. It reminds us that our journey together is not just about what we believe, but how we live out those beliefs in our relationships with each other and the world. In every action, we strive to reflect the love and compassion that is central to our faith.

Our journey at Remission Ministries is fueled by an ongoing desire to honor God by learning and understanding. We've found that in embracing unity in essentials, liberty in non-essentials, and charity in all things, we're not just building a community; we're nurturing a way that brings honor to our Lord, brings us closer to each other and to the heart of our faith.

Statement on Evangelicalism and Non-intellectualism

Remission Ministries stands firm in its belief that anti-intellectualism within the church not only limits its ability to confront contemporary challenges but also hinders the church's capacity to cherish, understand, and appreciate the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This diminished intellectual engagement can lead to a superficial grasp of the deep truths of the Gospel.

To counteract anti-intellectual tendencies, we advocate for educational initiatives within the church that emphasize theological depth and critical thinking. By fostering a culture where questioning and scholarly exploration are valued, we aim to develop a community of believers who are both spiritually grounded and intellectually equipped to navigate and contribute positively to the world around them.
